Fused Glass from Tropics of Costa Rica

What happened?

fused glassWhat happened? Can anyone help me? I’m trying to make a large, deep bowl. I’ve tried slumping into this clay mold and having no luck getting any height. The glass all sinks to the bottom. So I tried draping over the back of the mold. That didn’t work. Why?

  1. A couple of questions? What type of glass are you using? What is your slumping schedule?

    • It is float glass. I think I ramped too fast and then discovered that the lower element in my kiln was not working. Thus all the heat was from the lid element and the upper wall element. Thermal shock?

      • Sounds like it. I haven’t used to much float glass, but when I slump I go low and slow. Most of my slumps I ramp at about 200 degrees and only go to 1145 degrees with a long soak. Hope this helps and good luck with your endeavors.
